I did some quick number crunching to see how each Big Ten basketball team placed in the standings in order to compare this to how each team fared in recruiting. First, the raw data.
Here is the average Big Ten finish since 1999 (the first year I have consensus recruiting rankings. The second chart is how many Top 100 recruits each team has landed in that stretch. For the newer Big Ten teams, the numbers have been prorated annually.

Bang for the Buck (programs that are significantly outperforming their recruiting): Wisconsin
Decent Buys (programs that are outperforming their recruiting): Purdue, Penn State
You Get What You Pay For (programs that are where they should be based on recruiting): Michigan State, Maryland, Ohio State, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Rutgers, Northwestern
We Need a Refund (programs that are not getting results that match their recruiting): Michigan, Indiana, Nebraska
